Central Monitoring and Control Centers- Are #FacilityManagement companies working to over centralising?

Current method of running central monitoring and control centres (from energy management/efficiency and Operations & Maintenance perspective), is too centralised and costly besides causing a service delivery lag. With all the advancements in technology you don’t want to over centralise decision making process, that is just the opposite of what you would want to do.

Of all the centres I’ve come across (In Dubai and Australia), visited or have learnt about, on an average 4- 6 people are deployed, average (scientific guesstimate) running cost around 0.5 M$/Year (minimum).

First few years it would look great. But then it starts to become a cost centre, with significant rise service delivery costs (even if its internal), goes against the downsizing perspective (which was the very reason why leveraging technology was so important)

We should aim for a setup that encourages decentralised decisions (at site level) and centralised support, that too for critical tasks.

The way to achieve that is to choose the right combination of solutions (Analytics, Software Products, Integrations) and up skilling the Facility Management workforce (both at central and site level).

Your thoughts?
